Tesla Cybertruck Siezed by Police

Police in Greater Manchester have seized a Tesla Cybertruck under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act due to the vehicle not being certified for UK roads. The vehicle, costing about £48k and weighing around 3 tonnes, is owned by a permanent UK resident but is registered and insured abroad.
Use of a vehicle in this way is prohibited by UK law, and the driver was quickly relieved of the vehicle in Greater Manchester Police “Operation Wolverine”. Due to the vehicle’s sharp angular design and lack of side repeaters, it does not qualify for certification in Europe and the UK. Safety concerns have been raised due to the injury likely to be sustained to pedestrians in the event of a collision.
Recently, in April of last year Tesla recalled thousands of their Cybertrucks due to concerns about accelerator pedals. The owner will be able to recover the vehicle if they can show proof of ownership and insurance, however they have a steep job ahead of them to achieve that.
